Greetings. I have been airbrushing HO models for 19 years w/ a Badger 150; dual-action, internal mix. Yesterday I was airbrushing a box car and some building kit parts and just got a 'wild hair' that maybe I should get a new airbrush. At first, I am thinking of taking the path of least resistance and just getting a new Badger 150. After all, I am used to, it is fairly easy to maintain and get new parts.... but was wondering about Paasche's or other brands. I do like the dual action, internal mix brushes and don't really want a brush w/ a fixed cup on top. So who's using what brushes out there?
I'm using 3 Paasche VL brushes - one for each type of paint I use (Floquil, Scalecoat II, and [rarely] Modelflex). If you want good prices and free shipping on orders over $45, try Dixie Art... http://www.dixieart.com/
I have both a Badger 350 and a Paasche VL#3. I keep going back to the Badger because I get better results. I keep trying to learn all the tricks on the new brush but don't force myself to use it enough I guess.
I use an Aztec A4709 and am pleased with the results. Previously I used an old Badger brush that I used for many years. It how you use the brush that's important. Stay cool and run steam.....
I've got Badger's Anthem 155 and am very happy with it. I'd say that if you like what you're using and getting good results, why switch??
I've got a Thayer & Chandler (or is it Chandler & Thayer?). I had bought it originally for my art classes and projects but, it's used more for modelling now. I love, although like most internal mixers, they can be a pain to clean.
I am just starting into painting. There must be more then 6 people out there using airbrushes. So which brand is better for someone new to that craft? Also, the compressor is very important, what do you recommend for that?
zwhit: Welcome to Train Board. I use a Paasche H, external mix, single action. very different from the recommendations above. There are many threads on this. The search function will give you some ideas. http://www.trainboard.com/ultimatebb.php/ubb/get_topic/f/13/t/001971.html#000000 http://www.trainboard.com/ultimatebb.php/ubb/get_topic/f/13/t/002055.html#000006 http://www.trainboard.com/ultimatebb.php/ubb/get_topic/f/13/t/002097.html#000000 http://www.trainboard.com/ultimatebb.php/ubb/get_topic/f/13/t/002042.html#000000 http://www.trainboard.com/ultimatebb.php/ubb/get_topic/f/13/t/001991.html#000004 http://www.trainboard.com/ultimatebb.php/ubb/get_topic/f/13/t/001982.html#000000 [ August 02, 2005, 06:14 AM: Message edited by: sapacif ]
zwhit- Welcome. I use the metal Aztec and am still learning. I found chalk better at my brushing skill level.
Thank you all for the input. And thank you for the links to past threads. I appreciate it. I just ordered a Paasche VL brush to go along w/ my Badger. Also, I am thinking about getting a Campbell Hausfeld 2 gallon tank air compressor, 1.0 SCFM @ 40 psi. Anyone have experience w/ these compressors?
You've made a good choice with the Paasche VL brush. Airbrush up a storm.. Have fun. Stay cool and run steam....
