Why is it advantageous to ARR or to EMD to build these units like this? Why not just convert the order to ACes?

 

Just a guess... fleet compatibility. Clearance restrictions might also be a faint consideration as well.

 

They've stuck with the MAC-T1's so they dont have to have 2 different part supplies

 

Now that those two new Alaska units are on their way to Alaska. Are there any more coming west? You talk about some sweet Locomotives.
