Hi everybody, i am drafting the schedule for my freelance RR. As I have a C420 in mixed service I need some info. The line is 30 miles long and the loco has to go back and forth several times per day for a daily run of about 300 miles. The line has an average grade of 25 per thousand (1 in 40), so half the mileage will be climbing, and half descending. Passenger trains will weigh approx 440Kpounds. Due to axle load, the C420 will have no more than 1000 gallons of usable fuel. Questions? - How much can a 420 pull on that line (for freight I mean) at an average speed of 30 mph - How much fuel does it use? (one figure for passenger service, one for freight) since i have to check the possibility of refueling and eventually change the schedule. Of course rough estimates are anyway OK Thanks
For purposes of modeling, you can assume a consumption rate of 3.2GPM, meaning you will run out of fuel 4 miles from your hone terminal on your last run of the day.
thanks BNSF.... then either I shorten the line some hundred yards or get another ten gallons on board.... anyone on the pulling power?
