::;waves a "C" note::: One, please! Funny, I was telling Chuck at FRT Friday that I wish Atlas would release a C636 in SP&S. Makes sense since they've done the 628 and 630s.
Without digging through my magazines, etc., does either of the already available C628, or C630, have a truck sideframe in common with a C636 version? Such as the SP&S? If the answer is yes, then maybe the project could indeed happen! Boxcab E50
Well folks, here it is. I still need to modify the trucks, but I haven't yet decided how I'm going to do it. Unfortunately the SP&S version had those infamous high maintenance high adhesion trucks, that don't look anything like the standard Alco truck on the 628 & 630. They resemble a modified EMD truck almost.
Hi Hemi: Thanks for the nice comments. I'm thinking I'll probably just modify the existing trucks on it. I've found that a lot of the time, trucks don't interchange very well. The engine won't run as smooth as it did with the origonal ones. I tried using a pair of SD60 trucks on it, but it didn't run as smooth as I would have liked. I think I could mock the Alco trucks up to be respectable representations of the prototypes however.
Bill, Excellent looking model, as you say the trucks do look different but when they are released as stated earlier its a simple job to change them out. whats the next project you have in mind?
Bill, if I didn't know any better, those trucks look like you could model them with a modified EMD Flexicoil truck.... Maybe an SD/7/9/24/35 could be a good donor, since EMD Flexicoil trucks are a 163" wheelbase; same goes for a GE 3-motor truck.
