All, Out of curiosity here. Were there any ALCO CENTURY Series Locomotives rebuilt to a Higher H.P. = HORSE POWER internally and retain their original car body, shell and Legnth either by ALCO , Railroad, etc ? If so how many? The reason Is this I was Looking at my 5 MP = MODEL POWER Mehano (Yugoslavia) Alco C-420’s along with my 3 CC - CON-COR ALCO C636’s two of the five MP C420’S and 2 of the 3 CC ALCO C636’s have been repowered long ago and still run quite well . NdM had some C-628's rebuilt to C-630 specs, but looked like C-630s when rebuilt. CP Rail upgraded many of their C-424's with alternators from retired M-630. Although there was the potential for a higher hp output, they were not re-rated. Externally there were minor differences with an additional duct on the hood roof above the central air intake area and they received a third air tank. The extra air tank was required for the air starter, due to the loss of the DC generator which was used as a starter motor. GE Hornell rebuilt several batches of Centuries for GB&W, D&H/G&W and D&M. Some of these received 12 cylinder engines instead of the 16's they were built with. There were some minor spotting differences. I believe many Canadian M-636's were derated rather than upgraded. These changes didn't result in any external differences. There's possibly more, but it's Monday and I haven't had breakfast yet! Will give it more thought. Steve
