Cool thread indeed! Okay, here's my contribution. WHAT, praytell does this boxcar have to do w/ ALCO? It is part of the old Atlantic and Danville RR that ran along the Virginia-North Carolina border from Pinners Point near Norfolk to Danville, VA. It ran through my hometown of South Hill, VA. I grew up watching many of these trains come through town and often went to sleep hearing them rumble about a half-mile away. Ours was a small tobacco town in Southern Virginia. When these loud Alcos came through town, especially in the middle of the night, EVERYONE in town heard 'em. Either they bothered you, or they made you sleep like a baby. Consider me in the latter. The A&D ran ALCO's exclusively. Here's the #102, one of the original Atlantic and Danville ALCO units. NOW, here's one of the orginal Atlantic and Danville ALCO units rebuilt and relettered for the Norfolk, Franklin, and Danville. The A & D became the NF&D when the A&D and taken over by the Norfolk and Western. GOOD THREAD! Strikes close to my heart and "upbringing".
You post a picture by copying the BBcode. There's the link to the picture framed with brackets and img. These pictures came from my site and were resized to 350 pixels wide. This way two pictures suit to one line. I did more. I made a link. The link is with brackets and url build. "url=][/url". (Tho outer brackets are missing.) Following the = is the url from my big picture and between the inner brackets ist the image link.
Here's another video. You see Extra 2048 from Harbor District arriving Third Street District. Wolfgang

Green Alcos The BN had a lot of Alcos mainly from the Spokane Portland & Seattle Ry with a few from the Northern Pacific. The Alco C-636 is one of my favourite Alco locomotives.
Wolfgang, I'm curious. Which sound decoder did you choose for the ALCO? BTW, I visited your RI site w/ the photo-spread of converting the ALCO. Good work. I enjoyed the views.
