Open question to Hans and Rob: what are the chances of releasing the Alco PA1 again? No request for injection moulded shell, just like to old fellow in brass. They where recent discussions and comments in some forum that guys, entered Z just in the last couple of years, missed out on PA1 and this loco is on top of the wishlist. The design work is done, just a matter of production, or? Should be also a competitive price possible? What do you guys and all others think? I would take one at least
Not many viewers and even less replies, not really encouraging for AZL. I guess we will never seen a PA1 again...
...scratchbuilding the shell will be a real challence... At least the shape is less complicated compaired to E and F units...
The GS3/GS4 was designed 8 years ago. It was never intended to pull the Daylight Brass Car set. Thats why we made the SP Daylight E7 units - for the brass cars. We did discuss the idea of a motorized bagage car so the GS units could pull the train, but demand was not there to go forward. Sorry to say that a re-run of the PA1 is not on the current project list. I suspect that if we did another PA run it would be in injected plastic, but that it is at least 5 years away. Honestly, I have not discussed it with Hans - its not on the dreawing board. Cheers! -Rob(A) AZL
Yes I know, but good luck finding the daylight F7. I'm still hopeful though. I'm replaceing the brass under carrage with a graphite strip. It will bring the weight down to the marklin car weight. I can pull 12 of them without bullfrogsnot on the drivers. we will see
PA? As Robert said, we have no immediate plans for a re-release. One problem with the PAs was the long truck that posed headaches for many older layouts. It is one of the most beautiful passenger locomotives ever built. As I can recall, the PA was not a commercial hit even if used by several railroads. Think SP was the only railroad where it had a good track record.
I don't even know if they will run the story. If they do I'll give you a heads up. If they don't, I'll post the story and photos here. I won't be finished with that project till sometime next year. I want to finish up a part of my layout first so I can take some killer photos! :tb-biggrin:
I too would like to know if any parts are available. One of my PA1's has a bad gear on the front axle. Curious- only ran it twice around the test track to see how well it would perform. Wayne
There are no spares (and weren't any produced) for these very low volume circa Y2000 releases. I have asked Hans to please, produce some spares on future releases. Repairs, kit bashes, etc. .
I have been working on a source to create after market gears for PA1s. But, I need a gear to send to the vendor so they can duplicate it. If anyone is willing to part with their bad gear, contact me offline. I am hoping that we can find a solution for replacement gears. ztrack@aol.com Rob
