Anybody have a copy of Railroad Model Craftsman, December 2006? I am looking for info on the RS23 and there was an article in that issue. I am mostly interested in the wheelbase. I had looked at building one of these before, but could not find a suitable mech. I find conflicting data online, so I am hoping the RMC article is accurate. I am thinking that the MP15DC may be pretty close on the wheelbase. Do these use the typical Atlas GP truck? Has anyone tried swapping an AAR-B truck into one to see if it worked?

Johnh - I took looked at doing a RS23 some years ago. And looked again, when the MP15DCs were announced. The downside: the truck centers on the MPs are atleast three feet to long. The upside is that the longhood on the RS is higher than the MP or an SW. If one was too overlook the truck difference. It might be possible....

On the trucks themselves, I know the part number for the MPs are different than those on the typical GP truck. So, I might assume it is not the same...

All the data I see on the MP15DC puts the wheelbase at 24'02", and the S-2 at 22'06", a tad under 2 feet. However, I have seen conflicting numbers on the RS23, with some specifying a wheel base the same as the S-2, and another site that doesn't give wheelbase, but gives a pilot to pilot distance nearly 3 feet longer, which makes me think the wheelbase is longer. Even if not, there should be room for the wheelbase if I can get AAR-B trucks to fit the MP15DC. I hope to find the RMC article somewhere, since it should have dims

    I have to website links.

The first is for a site full of 1/55 locomotives drawings.
    http://trainiax.net/mescaleloco55.htm

The second is a site, I have used before. They sell back issues for most magazines, both prototype and model...

    Welcome to Railpub.com

I just checked their site. That issue of RMC is available for $3, it is on page 4 of the "US & Canadian Model magazines" catalog.
