    Hi
I have recently started to collect UP locomotive of the 50s 60s
I Have a locomotive model of the ALCO S-2 switcher in yellow/grey with red numbers livery the number is 1151
On both sides of the cab is the logo DEPENDABLE TRANSPORTATION
Can anybody please tell me in which time period this loco switcher could be find in operations with this livery/logo?
thanks very much in advance for your reply

The Fallen Flags web site has a picture of an S-2 taken in 1967 with Dependable Transportation. Others in that time period had Road of the Streamliners.

Lots of switchers to choose from. :D

    In your opinion
would it be possible to find a UP switcher S-2 with DEPENDABLE TRANSPORTATION in service in the very early 1960s?
    thanks very much

    Hi stefano,

It is possible in my opinion. I've seen pictures that indicate that was used as early as 1959 on the GP20's so if a switcher got a paint job it could have the Dependable Transportation phrase on it. As for a specific number of unit with that phrase, I'm not able to help there at this time.

    Hi Greg
Thanks very much for your reply much appreciated
I have noticed that this loco switcher has red/white safety sripes painted on the lower front and back
Does this have any meaning in terms of chronology?
    thanks again

UP had retired all their Alco switchers long before they started putting the red and white safety stripes on yard or UPY series engines. I'm guess the engine you are referencing is the Alco model. When UP got the ok to use the UPY reporting marks is when I started seeing the red and white stripes. That's been 4 or 5 years and many UPY engines don't have the additional stripes.

what i mean to ask is
do you think that the red/white stripes on the atlas model is a mistake by atlas or is there any other explanation?
    thanks

    Stefano,

Atlas is usually pretty good at making correct paint schemes on their engines. I wonder if somebody put decals on the engine. IIRC the ads I saw for the Atlas S-2 yrs ago didn't have the UPY red/white stripes.
