Nope....you are stuck with the Overland part. I know how you feel on that price....some of their parts are reasonable and then others are too expensive.

check walthers.com, I ran across a plastic 2 pane one a while back, I thought I was stuck with that. The Overland one is expensive, but ease of building ;) ...

I need a few for some WC SD45's (anyone know if the current #6498 has winterisation hatches? Also where do winterisation hatches show up on a loco?

I don't know if 6498 currently has a winterization hatch or not, but to answer your second qestion, the winterization hatch is the large boxy structure on the locomotive roof, usually on top of the first radiator fan. It's there to redirect hot air from the radiator fan into the engine compartment, to help keep it warm in freezing weather. It has a shutter inside that can be set to direct the air into the engineroom, or to exhaust normally. Here is an example of a hatch on WC 6500, from George Elwood's Fallen Flags site: http://gelwood.railfan.net/other/wc/wc6500ags.jpg
