Last year, Robert Allbritton's Z scale Gotthard layout appeared on the PBS show Tracks Ahead, episode #714. This episode is now on You Tube! Check it out! The segment on Robert's layout starts around 8:30 into the program. Here is the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-PzC__PX2II By the way, look for two cameos of yours truly in the segment. Rob
Makes me realize once again how fortunate we are (the DC Z-Bend Track Group) to have this layout at our "clubhouse". As a matter of fact, I'll be there tomorrow morning preparing for our next train show! I sometimes forget just how spectacular it is, since I see it so regularly. Thanks for the heads-up, Rob.
Ohhhh! He's THAT Albritton. Hah! That's one amazing layout he built. And I didn't have the volume up or I would have realized that it was just a short way away from here. Where's the clubhouse located, Bryan? Anywhere near Vienna station? I grew up riding my bicycle on the then ballast-only W&OD ROW (before it was turned into a rails-to-trails project). And do you have public visit days? I'd love to bring the kids to see that action!
I apologize for the late response! Just getting back here for a quick visit. We DON'T have public visit days, but you could possibly arrange something with Rob by sending him a private message. I can't guarantee anything, but that's your best bet. The 'clubhouse' is located closer to the Potomac Yards area, but will be moving soon, as the area is slated for redevelopment! And coincidentally, I grew up in Vienna, and can remember when trains still ran on the W&OD right through the middle of town.
Thanks, Bryan. Maybe I'll PM Rob one of these days. That layout is just amazing. And I wish we'd been in Vienna earlier. We got there in the early 70s, after the track had already been ripped out. The ROW was just down at the bottom of our neighborhood (Eudora) and we were down there all the time.
