Here are a few pictures to compare the new Rivarossi plastic Allegheny to the latest Brass version from Key. Riv is looking pretty good here I must say. [IMG]

Harry Wong is a custom detailer/builder, so I expect he has added some super detailing to the brown engine. I have never seen a totally blue "Brass" engine, but looks good too for details. You can tell the Rivarossi has extra clearance between engine cab and tender so it can still take an 18" radius curve and probably the rear set of drivers also swivel like the front set. The more prototypical clearance on the blue engine looks better. If the rear set of drivers are rigid to the frame like a real one, the cab will not swing way out over the country side on curves. My opinion, Wong does good work, have you seen his Amtrak engine for Atlas?

Watash: Supposedly the pictures of Harry's are from the NMRA covention in St.Louis this past month. The Allegheny was apparently on display at the Walthers booth. Since they are not released for purchase yet by Rivarossi I would be surprised if Harry got one to Superdetail. You may know more than me about this, but I am pretty sure this was just the mock-up on display.

I really wish the tender distance was more like the P2K 2-8-8-2s that I have. It goes around a 15" curve with no problem so I don't know why we need that much clearance for 18". But, what do I know anyway.

I just can't wait to have that H-8 sit next to my Big Boy, Challenger, FEF-3, and 2-8-8-2 on the layout. If only my layout was up to the quality of these engines!!!!!!

BNSF, I received the Con-Cor notice about the 4-6-6-6 that was to come out. As I remember, Harry was one of the consultants on it, and did have access to early factory parts, but not sure, I didn't keep the notice, and didn't want to reserve one at the price for a plastic anything.

I said earlier he did the Amtrak engine for Atlas, that is incorrect; he did the one for Athearn used in their new add about it.

I can't even emagine a 15" radius curve on HO, the cab over-hang must be terrible! I really don't like the looks of any of the presently available HO articulateds going over turnouts and curves because the manufacturer made the rear set of drivers to swivel.

The only real locomotives made where both sets of drivers swiveled was Garrett. ALL American engines only swiveled the front set. The rear set was solid under the boiler. Varney was the only manufacturer that had a mallet in HO that I remember, and it would take a very tight 30" radius slowly, but really worked well on 36" or larger, and #10 to 14 turnouts. It had the rear set solid, prototypical. With the solid lead boiler they pulled like "Who laid the Rails!" (An old expression). :D

Ooooooh, That Riv. is looking good next to the brass. Both look good actually! I model N&W, but I think I'll incorporate some C&O!

Can any of you guys get these GIFs to work. They are some great steam engines for your signatures. If you figure out how they work let me know.
    I can't get them to work like my challenger! http://www.geocities.com/skytop45/UPbigboyr.gif http://www.geocities.com/skytop45/UPchallengerR.gif http://www.geocities.com/skytop45/SPcabforwardr.gif http://www.geocities.com/skytop45/daylightR.gif http://www.geocities.com/skytop45/F7-right.gif http://www.geocities.com/skytop45/nycJright.gif

Is it that geosites does not allow copy/paste to other sites?

One probably has to buy the gif inorder to be able to post it. I don't know how people do it, but I understand they can copy your gif, put it in their own folder, then post it anywhere they please, but I'm not sure if that is true.

A long about middle of last year there was a place you could buy all kinds of funny stuff to use in e-mails, and on chat rooms, but I haven't seen much used except here on the Board.
