Hi All, Was out on our drop yard at work today and saw something odd. It was an Alliance Shippers 53ft Roadrailer reefer equipped trailer. That is odd enough since not many companies have roadrailers but even fewer have reefer equipped roadrailers like this one. Our spotter said he has seen quite a few of them lately. According to the Alliance web site, they offer(ed) express service in cooperation with Amtrak Express. So, has anyone seen one of these on the rails? Or does anyone know more about these trailers? Could they be ex Amtrak trailers? Thanks for any extra information. Will also see if I can come up with a photo soon.
Hi Richard, In a message to the Modelintermodal mailing list on 3/04/01, Brian Kreimendahl wrote: "Alliance has ordered 200 53-foot ReeferRailers from Wabash National and that delivery of these units may begin as early as next week. These ReeferRailers will be used on BNSF's ICE ReeferRailer train between Chicago and San Bernardino and will also be in service OFC." Brian then later posted that the order was for 55 units and not the initial 200. Chad Hewitt later posted a photo to the list of ALLZ553713 one of the new ReeferRailers. Chad also posted a Southwest Logistics ReeferRailer ALLZ553569 as these share the Alliance reporting mark. If Alliance have a relationship with Amtrak, they may turn up on Amtrak trains. I'm not sure I've ever heard of carriers apart from Amtrak being on Amtrak trains, but thats not to say it doesn't happen. Hope this helps. The photo's may still be available for viewing on the yahoo groups website, so it may be worth considering joining the list if you want to see them. James
James, Thanks for the great information. The particular trailer I saw was ALLZ553660. If these units were intended to cover Chicago to West cost runs, then they are far off course running between New Jersy and Atlanta.
Hi Intermodal Fans: I was in Cincinnati the other day and saw a CSX train pulling a string of Roadrailer Reefers painted green and lettered for Tropicana. They were headed into a siding to an industrial park near Tri-County mall. Does anyone have any info? Have Fun: Jeff
