This is one large and heavy load, just sitting at Avondale Yard waiting to be photographed. The car flooring is flat, not drop-centered. But it is supported on four(4) Buckeye trucks. Sorry the camera didn't highlight the trucks, but the next shot shows one truck more clearly. This is a close-up of the load specs and one truck. If I understand how to compute the load specs, I believe this is a 250 Ton car. Do you think that Alan might be inclined to produce a few of these beasts??
Why not do it yourself. You can find drawings on the TTX website and the trucks are available in both HO and N scales. I did a somewhat similar depressed center flat and have been contemplating somthing like that one. Really, scratchbuilding isin't that hard!
There are a large number of different types of these cars, and I will be doing more, but the next one will be a depressed center one. I have drawings for most of them.
That's probably what it is, well basically. I think it's a large generator, maybe for a power plant, and so in essence, it is a motor! A dead HO scale motor on a N scale car and you're in business on this one!
You just gave me a good idea for some of those old motors I have laying about! BTW- I used to put an old motor on a flat a long time ago and folks would tell me that it aint prototypical! Russ
I can imagine what fellow club members might say if you showed up with a dead Atlas motor painted blue with yellow ends .... And then mounted it on an MT drop-center flat. I think you might be looking for a new club. [ 25. July 2002, 01:10: Message edited by: Hank Coolidge ]
Kinda reminds me of those old Athearn "wide" motors they used, which was why all their stuff was a foot too wide. Too bad I don't have any more of 'em....... Paint THAT blue w/ yellow ends & drop it on a flat- if the Atlas motor didn't get you booted out, the Athearn motor might!
