Book Review: Always a Cowboy, Judge Wilson McCarthy Always a Cowboy: Judge Wilson McCarthy and the Rescue of the Denver & Rio Grande Western Railroad (Utah State University Press) Just finished reading this one last night. Will Bagley wrote a very interesting Biography of a very interesting man. I didn't realize that he had his fingers in a whole lot of different pies. What he did for the West, let alone the D&RGW was wonderful. The world could use a few more like him. Paul H. Liddiard
This is a new book? Can you post the ISBN and other info? Thanks for the heads-up! What kind of D&RGW emphasis does it include?
New book [ame="http://www.amazon.com/Always-Cowboy-McCarthy-Western-Railroad/dp/0874217156/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1218897586&sr=1-1"]Amazon.com: Always a Cowboy: Judge Wilson McCarthy and the Rescue of the Denver Rio Grande Western Railroad: Will Bagley: Books[/ame] That's the Amazon link (where I got mine from). ISBN 978-0-87421-715-5 There is a beautiful Howard Fogg painting of the CZ on the dust jacket. The D&RGW content is very good, starts basically on page 170, chapter 7: Dangerous & Rapidly Getting Worse is the chpter title, subtitled "How to ruin a railroad, or the checkered history of the Denver & Rio Grande Western." He quotes a lot of Robert Athearn, but it's 291 pages of very well documented history. PHL
