Good looking hard working cars there John. The C&S is nice looking but I like your AMC car better. I think it's the lettering, makes it look like a no non sense railroad struggling to get by. Great weathering on both of them.

Is this car body the same as the Ajax version? Did you resolve that coupler mounting issue?

They are the exact same cars. I did get the couplers lowered by adding scrap plastic shims. Greg, I agree...I like the Ajax car better too :)

BTW, the Ajax mine also had a BIG mill up the Clear Creek and I remember driving by it as a kid. Did they have their own rolling stock? I doubt it, but hey...this is model railroading and we are allowed artistic license!! :D

It's interesting that so much of this spirit seems to be found in On30. Well, other narrow stuff, too! I wish it surfaced more often in the "standard" scales. We need to see more people doing G&D, V&O, AGE, etc. But it just doesn't seem to be there in significant numbers.

Not to take away from these folks at all but...I think ( and this is clearly an opinion) that it is because there are so many "ready made" models in standard gauge. When one has to "scrap out" their engines and rolling stock I think it opens the door for a lot more creativity...just 2 cents from someone who has done both worlds...standard N, HO, and G scales and now On30. Frankly, where I am is A LOT more fun than I have ever had!

I do understand the pre-fab equipment situation. It's just interesting to note there is apparently not enough of a freewheeling spirit. After all, undecs can be had in a large portion of N and HO. Painting is not difficult. Custom decals can be had easily. So, where is the drive and creativity? We learn of or see stories about so few efforts. :tb-wacky:

You say true...I say thank ya...I have about 12 hours in each of these cars. It is actually, likely, less given the number of breaks (read "interruptions") my kids give me. To me, obviously, this is the heart of model railroading...MODELING. Taking time to create something from nothing...or in my case creating something from something else :D . This is fine...some folks like "outta the box" MR, but not me or my ilk...we like to bash, crash, slash, fold, spindle and mutilate into something WE think fits out model and era. If that inspires or helps someone along the way GREAT!!
