Hi, well this my first post here.

My question is would be possiable to use a servo from a 1/10th scale rc car to activate a manual switch? This was the servo i was thinking about - http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXH288&P=ML

I was goign to attempt to wire it to a toggle switch.

I can't see a real reason why that would not work. As long as the servo has enough torque to do the job, it's simply a matter of creating appropriate linkage.

All right, it's the wiring part that gets me though. I want to wire it to say a toggle switch. For the linkage i was going to use just some wire that would be hooked to the switch lever and the servo itself.

    Welcome to Trainboard.

Can the servo move in both directions on command? In other words can it control for example the flaps and move them up and down? If so you got's a winner. There should be three wires. One is a negative, ground or common (most likely black). The other two will activate the servo either in flaps up or down.

To activate or align the switch you would need to set it up so it can close or open it. I don't recall the battery voltage needed to activate the servo but you can test it with the batteries you are familiar with. I just hope the servo has the strength to move the points.

Yes, it can move both directions, it used to be for a steering servo for a rc car. I have no layout yet, I just had to pack up all my stuff. I was just seeing if this could be done. It does have the three wires - black, red, white.
