Made a short video. Not the best but you can get the general idea. http://youtu.be/FnVd3OaNVmA Bought the items needed to animate from Gizmoszone.com. Listed below are the items I got. GMM0.3-14-15-P2 Mitre gear set GH6124S-10 14rpm motor GH612M Motor mount Once the structure was assembled. I inserted the water wheel and brass rod. The mitre gear was a larger ID than the brass rod included with the kit. The way I fixed this, took a piece of shrink wrap, heated on brass rod. Then removed from the brass rod and inserted in the gear to take up the difference. Mounted the motor, then slipped the gear on the brass rod to mate with the motor gear. So for around $25 plus cost of kit, it was a pretty easy project.
Ed, While you won't get any awards for your videography, ), you do have that great overhead picture you could post. This is the cleanest set up for motorized application I've seen yet. Due credit is also warranted to David Smith for steering you towards the components. I'm ordering my parts today.
Loren, You are correct. The video is far from good. It was hard holding the make shift power source and the camera in the other hand. I will have to do a video and post later. Yes, many thanks to David Smith for showing me the great source for components. Here is the picture Loren was talking about. Much better than the video. http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c114/eit27/Water Wheel/2011-10-13_18-09-25_423.jpg
