Interesting those crosshead markings. I'd love to watch over the shoulder of an oldtimer who really knew his stuff. That would be great fun. Boxcab E50
Boy, your crew's attention to details is impressive. How heavy are those "lightweight" side rods? :tb-biggrin:
I don't know the weight, "rumor" has it that three shop workers could move them around. We have the equipment to move them and so we may never find out (Grin). Regards, Kevin
The photo documentation ongoing is simply amazing. I doubt there has ever been so much attention to such a detail. Boxcab E50
Thanks For info during visit Thank y'all at the 2926 camp for the info during my recent visit. I enjoyed the tour and everybody was above and beyond and on best behavior. Especially thanks to Dave for taking the time to do the tour for Me and My son. Again Thanks for your hospitality.:thumbs_up::thumbs_up::thumbs_up:
I had a chuckle seeing the facial expressions of that guy working the computer. It seems as though the wrapper patch work is moving a bit slowly. Has there been a problem fitting it? Boxcab E50
No problems, just the desire to get it right the first time. (Grin) As I understand it, a precise fit, with the right gap all the way around the patch, will make the repair as "Good as New". (Grin) There are lots of things we never want to do again, so a lot of effort is put in to planning. When we were working on the tender, is seemed like nothing was happening, then all of the sudden every thing seemed to snap. Right now we are in the phase where lots of base work has to be completed, before the dramatic stuff can happen. Thanks for the kind comments, Kevin
The first quarter news letter is up on the club site. And here are the recent two sets of photos. 4-16-11 4-23-11 Regards, Kevin
Thanks for the ongoing progress reports, Kevin. Wow, those "lightweight" rods are enormous. Gives one some perspective on how huge AT&SF 2900s are. :tb-biggrin:
Speaking of the rods, were they painted originally? After all that wonderful work cleaning them up, will they be kept unpainted? Boxcab E50
As I understand it, the rods will stay silver. The no paint condition is to allow for damage checks. They might get waxed to keep them corrosion free, but they have to be available for visual inspection during "oiling round". Regards, Kevin
