    Danger,

If you don't go with auto everything on a camera, you can get some excellent camera's that will still do an outstanding job of taking pictures. Remember... a camera is a dark container, stopping the light from hitting the film, until you expose it with a speed selection, aperature selection, and setting speed of the film.

The most important aspects to a successful photograph is the quality of the film, the speed of the film, and the quality of the lens. I would recommend you buy a used Nikon or Cannon with a used quality zoom. Although, you can get a great deal if you are willing to go with a "fixed" focal lenght lens. I would recommend a 35, a 50, and maybe a 90 milimetre lens or around that vicinity. Longer lens aren't as useful (read: used as much) as the shorter focal lenghts. Most people don't want fixed focal lenght lens and real quality lens are going cheap.

Remember, all those great award winning photo's from the past were taken using fixed focal lenghts. Also, though this is subject to debate, but not quite as vociferous as in the past, fixed focal lens give better quality than zoom lens.

i took some photography classes in high school, and i know what i am looking for.I have some lenses from my old camera that are thread mount(pretty rare nowadays i'm told)so unless i can find a thread mount body,i'll have to get a cannon or something like that.I really want lenses i can change, cuz i am thinking of getting into photography as a side hobby.(just as soon as i win the lottery and can afford all of my hobbies!)The hardest part i've found is finding a camera with a light meter that still works.

Dangerboy- you can get thread mount adapters for manual Pentax cameras - you should be able to find an old used Pentax K camera for real cheap. The adapter might be hard to track down but a large camera store (not a large chain, but a large store) should have one.

Pentax K-1000 would be right up your alley then. 100% manual and mechanical - and you should be able to use your screw mount lenses.

I have no experience with stills from video, but I would expect that the more light the better in terms of quality. Get some 100watt bulbs and give it another go.

But more importantly - that's some mighty fine rockwork you have there [IMG] but why does the sky stop on the right hand side? :(

Keep up the good work mate!

What you see there is the fifth day.We all know God didn't rest until the seventh day,i guess he's not done making sky...... ;) Ya i know,i was never intending to post those pics and say lookie here what i did!I was just trying to see if i could. That sky ends for access to the tracks behind the back drop. It's a loop on a shelf, and i didn't want the train to show up again going in the opposite direction,so i have a HUGE hidden area behind the backdrops. On the newer sections i've built my backdrop is continuous, with a stageing yard behins a removable sky.(so glad its removable, for once i listened to advice in magazines about accesability.) I'll try brighter lights with my camera, thanks.
