From the Yahoo! MoPac group, this sad news:

For those who knew Charles Winters, he passed away Friday morning at 5 AM in a Kansas City hospital. He had been admitted Monday with Influenza Type A. In addition to being a switchman in KC starting with the Wabash, he was a railfan, historian and collector of railroadiana. My fellow Ft Smithian of 70 plus years will be missed.

I own one of Winters' books "Streetcars of Ft. SMith", and have enjoyed his pictures in Railroad magazine and other publications. He was a great treasure trove of railroad history around the Kansas City area, as well as Ft. Smith.

Our hobby has been made poorer by his passing, but richer by his stories and photographs.

In the past, I had heard his name. But otherwise, am not familiar with his work.

Seems like the last two years, a whole bunch of rails, railfans, and model railroaders have left us.

    :(
