Now these involve all the fallen flag rr's and even ones not listed(i.e. cnw , southern, etc.) Were all or most of the fallen flags rr's publicly traded companys? What were thier intinals lets say for Conrail, M-K-T/Katy, ATSF, BN, Southern Pacific, SSW/DRG&W, Frisco, WP and the list could go on and on. Next, When a rr buys locomotives, trucks, cars and other things, who/what name is on the titles or bill of sale. Is it in the rr's or what(fill me in).

I think this topic would be best in the ready track, but regarding RR equipment, usually the railroad owns the particular piece. This is true for most trucks, freight cars, buildings, and land.

However, some of it is leased, like buildings (Pennsylvania RR was notorious for 999 year leases). Locomotives also sometimes fall under the lease realm on 15, 20, or 25 year leases. In this case, the builder (EMD, GE) usually still "owns" the locomotive, but for all intents and purposes, it is that railroad's (kinda like a car lease, but on a much longer scale).
