Ok.. I know it might seem like I am bragging with the finds I have been finding.. well.. ok.. I am bragging, lol..

But, some of you might remember the 70th Anniversary medals I have? I have 3 of them, and just recently found this presentation box. I did not know they had these until now. but, picked it up for just a few bucks... It is a presentation box for one of these medals given to a "Charles H. Reed" for his 50 years of service, the same year of Rock Islands 70th anniversary.. I thought it was cool, and plan to use it to display one of my 70th medals.. Take a look.. BTW. Does anyone know anything about a Charles Reed with Rock Island?

Nice find! Seeing that slot in the medallion, I wonder- Did it possibly have a ribbon at one time? In order to pin it to a lapel or? Your previous pictures I don't remember seeing one?

Yes, it is for a ribbon. These medals originally came mounted military style with a red/white/blue ribbon.

I have three of them, with one being an "oddball" and different stamping. I had a question about that odd one too before. I still have yet to find an answer as to both stampings of the same medal. But, I picked this box up on ebay and thought it would be a perfect way to display one of them. I would like to someday have the best of the three I have mounted on a ribbon like it originally came. I have yet to see one with it's original ribbon. I assume the ribbon was made of some material or fabric that didn't stand the test of time. maybe cotton?

BTW: The box has a hump in the felt like background and also has holes like a pin was in it at one point. I assume that was there for the ribbon portion of the medal to pin to, and let the medal hang down about where I have it placed in the picture.
