I have completely gone over to toothpick uncoupling from skewer..(HO)..I just had a brainstorm: As I had put one in an empty screw hole on the plywood subroadbed right next to a caboose I got an idea..Maybe make toothpicks into removable telephone or telegraph poles (with imaginary wires of course )..snip off point at top and glue cross members reinforced with diagonal 'metal' straps ...Have stationary poles along route and removable ones near every potential uncoupling area...lift it out, uncouple, put it back ...I made a stove-pipe for one broken off a caboose from toothpick pieces.. White glue made T shape very strong...I reemed out the plastic in the roof hole with a drill driver moving a 1/16" bit very VERY SLOW..glued in new one, painted it black and can't even tell the difference from the other stove pipes now..( local trainstore didn't stock them either )..
