Ok, at last we have a good photo of the Warsaw depot courtesy of Rob Blackford who said, "I can not remember where I ran across this, but it is the best picture I have found to compare to modern day landmarks. I still refer to your website for the best historical info for the now NS Marion Branch." Photo courtesy of Rob Blackford.
Nice photo of a typical small town depot, at least of those I remember seeing in the eastern half of America. Interesting to note that the town identifier sign is mounted above the platform eave. Whereas most NYC and B&M signs I remember hung below the eaves.
I started firing in Aug . of 1950 . The depot was gone. The brakeman told me they had just torn it down. The passenger train had stopped running in April 1950 . Will draw attention to several things starting on the near end ,south end . Notice the water barrel with the two water buckets in the rack above. The large building on the left was the Little Crow milling company ,they made all kind of breakfast cereal .Moving north of the depot notice the signal mast. It is a two head 3 light interlocking signal .Notice how far to our left it is from the main track . As the track goes north there is a curve and it was placed away from the track so that the southbounds could see the indication . At the first crossing you can see we hit an empty garbage truck , the second crossing was U.S. highway 30 . This was about 4 blocks of street running . I would guess the photo date about 1940-47 . Because the signal has the round heads I would think the latter date would apply . LEW
