Could someone please tell me what "anticlimbers" are? What locomotives they are used on? ...and when/why they first came into use? Thank You

I believe their purpose was to prevent, in a collision, one locomotive riding up over the other's frame and destroying the cab.

Anticlimbers prevent objects that are hit from climbing up and over the pilot and into the cab/nose, they offer little to no protection in locomotive on locomotive collisions.
