Just wondering if L & N diehards use this link? I live in Irvington Ky. Anybody know anything about the old coal tipple ? What about the Fordsville Branch? White House Hotel? The old Turntable/engine house? Anything ? philip
philip, My wife is the L&N fan in our house. When we go to the railroadina or other train showes she is always looking for L&N stuff. We live in the west but she was born in KY and her uncle was a L&N conductor for many years. She also has her own L&N train set in HO. So I am sure anything you find out regarding the L&N she would love to hear. Thanks Shannon WP LIVES
Shannon : Glad to see your response! I guess this is the fallen flag RR. Or not a whole lot of people check this area of Trainboard. My mother worked in Louisville at the REA Express and Dad worked for the Monon from Louisville to Chicago. He was a train baggageman. During WW II he worked for the 728th Railway Operating Battalion which was the L & N RR. He was a signal maintainer and dispatcher during WWII...he was stationed in England. I have some pictures of his unit when they were stationed in England. Would you like to see the photo? philip
Hello, I recently switched over to the L&N. I live in Kinston, AL and the railroad tracks are just across the road from my house. The railroad subsidiary of the L&N was the Alabama & Florida. The current railroad is the Pioneer Railcorp subsidiary... you guessed it; Alabama & Florida. The A&F has one GP20 still painted in the ATSF paint scheme and numbered 3069. The locomotive comes by the house about once every two weeks. Needless to say the current condition of the railroad is less than ideal for modeling. Therefore, I am researching the L&N, I plan on joining the historical society, and I have a 9X11 room that will hold an N scale version of a portion of the A&F line. The time frame I am considering is approximately October 1953. I am wanting to take advantage of the recent and near future release of N scale steam (MP 4-6-2, Bachmann 2-8-0, and 4-8-2). Any information on this area, freight car information, and any other information would be greatly appreciated.
I've got two L&N engines for sale that match that time period (early 50's). I have had them listed on the Trainboard Yellow Pages for a month, but nobody spoke up so I sent them to eBay. The links are: RS-3 Sorry they're on eBay rather than direct sale. I did post them here first for fellow Trainboard members, but I suspect that many folks don't even know the Yellow Pages Trainboard forum exists! Regards, David
