Well did anyone do anything this weekend or have plans for the upcoming weekend?I personally got the electricity done in my train room completed.I also got started on the insulation for my new 16 x 24 foot room.I also put Digitrax decoders in 4 new engines and got them programmed for DCC.They included a 80MAC in Conrail and CSX, a AC4400 in Canadian Pacific, and a BN NW2.As you can see I like every railroad.Other than that I didnt get anything done.:tb-nerd:
Got a bit of work done tonight on my St. Lawrence and Atlantic cars (for the CP rail/NS Delaware and Hudson division I do at home). I turned a pair of MDC ATSF box cars into paint-out SLR boxes (still have weathering to add and dullcote) and than painted out the new Micro-trains 89' COFC CP rail flat into an SLR COFC flat (they actually use that prototype as far as I can tell while CP does not): here's pix (the flat is tough to photograph because its such a tiny side and decal!)
Detailing PNWR 2304 I spent a good chunk of the earlier part of the day, some of it on this board, trying to figure out how to add a decoder to this same locomotive. I consider it hobby time well spent though I cannot really photograph it. I got a lot of help here and the issue has been solved. I got some time later to pull out some detail parts and put them on. I was going for this look: PNWR Remote Equipment This is from PNWR 2305, but it is the same setup, according to the engineer who took this photo, as the PNWR 2304. Attached is a photo of the installed, but not yet painted, antennae. I will next be putting some MU hoses on here. Adam
After photographing the other, I decided to put some MTL archbars on these and get a shot. The next step is decal application, and I have some MOW themed decals that a local guy puts together. Then I will detail them out, such as putting a bunch of junk on the boom car, adding weathering, adding exhaust marks, and so on. I am trying to decide what road to name these. I am thinking maybe doing SP&S... these cars are definitely an older era than most of my other N-standard gauge stuff. Maybe I will create a proto-freelance SP&S museum in Astoria on my Astoria Branch. These are a Tichy kit. I have had fun building them. The only thing that makes me sorry is that by having built these I have nearly built every N scale thing that they make that I am interested in building.
The only thing I managed to work on was my ongoing scratch built 269' Coast Guard ice breaker the Westwind, in N scale. It's actually becoming a little maddening when you spend two evenings building two 12 ton cranes, with about a 100+ pieces each.
I managed to finish the benchwork on my UP and coming project and I also finished painting the walls of my railroad room. The rest of the weekend was spent shopping online and after spending a few thousand $$ we went to an Oktobefest and thats the last thing I remember. Shaun
The Grey and Grandure III - Retro Grade Thread and Pics to follow but due to an effort to simplyfie my life I have revered to a flat layout with two semi concentric ovals and al "L" with yard and engine terminal. On one hand it hurt on the other it feels good. Yes, I could have completed the GandG II as designed with the 6% grades but frankly it was taking too much time. I think I was afraid of making too many critical mistakes / sloppy workmanship that would have made it "no fun" in the future. It was not the design. Just my limited ability to build it as perfectly as it would have required. Progress is being made. More Later.
Went for a 12 hour train ride behind PM Berkshire 1225 on saturday.Air conditioning in our coach was broken. 85 degrees outside. No telling inside. Coach was completely full. What a great time!Pix later.. Woops! set the grass on fire cleaning the grates!!
