Whats the big deal if a model railroad magazine is a few days late these days anyway? All the news of new products contained therein is old hat by the time we get it because of the internet.
That's pretty much my take on this topic. The new product announcements are mostly, in my opinion, just filler. The real value in them is if we get some decent photos of the announced product, as those are sometimes hard to find online.
My copy arrived in Arizona today. Also, I think it has been interesting to see the different days they arrived across the country.
Indeed there isn't unless your copy has gone missing as has happen with MR..The magazine was replace but,it was nice to know others had recieved their copy of course I asked at the clubs I am a member of. While the Internet has ruin the monthly new product announcement excitement of years ago I find it helps budget hobby funds for the coming releases.. Now with that said some times I am sorry I got my first computer in 2001.Oh its nice for research and convenient for ordering from on line shops but, still there are some things that's been lost in the process.
I don't worry if my magazine is a little slow. I don't catch every single new product announcement on the web. Almost always seeing things in the magazine I might have otherwise missed. I'd prefer to settle into a comfortable chair, and relax with my copy, rather than have my nose attached to this monster machine too many hours each day. Boxcab E50
Adam- Between trying to earn a few dollars, and fun, I do spend too much time on line. And, two weeks ago, as some Staff know me- "The Keyboard Killer", I wore out yet another keyboard. Ha ha... Meanwhile, my copy of NSR is here today. Safe and sound. That's all I care about. Oh boy! Fun reading tonight! Boxcab E50
Just received my issue here in San Antonio, Texas. Who posted that picture here on TB of the de-skirted GS-4?
I think Kirk is going toward N Scale's format of projects:thumbs_down:. I loved it when he did a couple of layouts per issue. Tons of pictures,30+ per layout. You could get a real feel for the layout. I also liked the articles on different RR's power & equipment. I'd do a couple of them,if I knew how to get pictures to a disc. I guess I'll get somebody to show me.
I picked up NSR and NSm at my hobby shop and was actually quite pleased to see them full of projects. I can get tours of layouts in nearly any of the other model railroad publications, and I certainly don't need the thing to be heavy on announcements of products to come. I can see plenty of that elsewhere.
Geez, still waiting for mine in MD... Got my NSm 1 or 2 weeks ago. Oh well, back to reading the forum.
I was impressed with the Clinchfield article, and the travels this particular layout maed once it left Milwaukee. Looks good for being 30 years of age (well, thanks to some scenery redos). Wonder what it would look like with code 55 trackage...............
I just got the new N Scale mag., & for the 1st time ever,I think it was better NSR. Since I like looking at layouts & not projects, that is the basis of my opinion. That's why I loved NSR. DeBene,Blackman,Lewis,Treaster,Teague,Rod Stewart( I know,it was in MR & its HO,but its cool) & all the others. I get insperation from all these layouts. The maravolus craftsmanship. The little things. Like on Teague's, the water main break. On Stewart's, the Grim Reaper standing on a rooftop. That's great stuff. Due to my disabilities,I can't do most of the projects. Just ask JD. I've been keeping him busy for over 6 months.:tb-wink:
Got it,loved it.I love the articles on kitbashing, detailing rolling stock.I remember the articles showcasing different modelers fleets,in particular Flash Blacman's fleet, very inspiring.I would like to see more articles on "average joe" layouts, not just the big ones with 1400 car yards and 300 engine diesel facilities. While these are nice,I remember when I was starting out I loved to see what could be done in a spare bedroom or on a shelf style layout.
