Well... Aint that some sXXt!!! :tb-err:

If you dont have any luck finding one, The Life-Like GPs have a simular pickup. You might be able to fine one of those, and easily retrofit it?

    mechanism

If it comes to it you might have to pay $50 to buy a whole new mechanism or just replace it.

Well I damaged the same item for, I think it was the GEAC4400. I could not find it either. I did call Kato in the USA, even though it was not listed in the parts catalog they did find me two.

I used both of them up, maybe try calling Kato USA.

If you can find a shorter length one, you can cut it in half and use small brass shims or tin foil to wedge the two parts at the ends of the slot where the full length one fits. Does that make sense?

Also, you can make one from sheet brass. In fact, you might be able to get a brass strip and bend it to shape. That would be easier. I would just jump right in and try it. It won't cost much and you may get this engine fixed. Keep us posted.

BTW, you can also buy copper strips. That might be better than brass.

    Don't fret. It's just a part.

    First off, Call caboose hobbies:
    Phone: (303)777-6766 - Fax: (303)777-0028 - Toll-Free(Orders Only): (800)886-1813

They have a full repair dept. I bought some undecs there with the wrong numnber of steps and they swapped em out for me no charge. I've bought motor brushes. etc. they have those parts.

Or else, get some copper sheet and make one.

you might ask intermountain for a replacement set for the tunnel motor. those metal strips are about the same length, and i'm confident you could make one work. if anything you could take what you can find and solder a price on the end(s). i've done this and it worked fine.

    Tbone,
I see your problem. Kato do not list the pickup strips as replacement parts.
My suggestion is to try Atlas for 1 x #9490308 Contact strip for an SD-60. They only want about 75 cents for one of these.
It should be close or simply need some careful re-bending.

If it all goes bad I guess you have to digging in the doogy doo!
    All the best,

I think over time brass and copper will oxide. I believe those pickup strips are made of Bronze Phospherous. I know they sell that in strips (I've seen them at the Amherst RR show) and you can bend your own. Search for 'bronze phospherou' and see what you can find.

I will follow the advice of others first in trying to find a near replacement by using parts from other locos.

Nope, not a hero, just doing the right thing.

Armed forces, Police, EMT's and Firefighters are the heros.

    I'm just,
