Any of you familiar with Stoney Mtn Cassic Castings? The layout needs a few vehicles--in addition to the oilfield trucks that I posted questions about. This is a company that is new to me and it would be nice to know if they are decent kits before I buy a few.
Never heard of them before. But looking at the picture, I'm inclined to say... Nobody ever made a truck called Rio. There was a truck maker founded by Ransom E. Olds named, appropriately, REO, but I've never seen one from the 1951 era with a forward axle. They have prominent noses, and cabs with a little bit of room. That looks like a resin kit, like the old Magnuson kits. That's good, because it needs some detail cut into it with a Dremel. A lot of detail. The wood bed is an interesting touch, but wood beds have steel frames. They couldn't mold that from the resin? I have an HO layout, my era's 1952, and I love REO trucks. The photo is enough for me. I'm not buying one of those things.
I am not familiar with them. But, being polite here, the particular casting shown here looks very rudimentary at best and on the crude side. No idea what else they sell or how appearance of any other items offered might be, as a comparison....
I have not. Looked at ordering one of their rail barges, a few years back. But it was non-stock at the time, so never did it. Many of those styles of kits seem to require a bit of extra work, or more, to make parts and pieces fit well. If that is the only way to acquire what is desired, it gets done. Outcome is usually well worth the effort. Usually... As they say, 'your mileage may vary'.
