Does anyone in HO or larger use actual work trains? Load a hopper with spikes or use gondolas to haul stuff around like you small screw drivers, pin vise and drill bits, etc. Secondly, what kind of pactical loads can you come up with the fit HO scale rollng stock. How about steel coil cars hauling 1" rolls of duct tape? Anyone try sealing a tank car, the adding a mini discharge and hauling water, oil to drip on the tracks, whatever. [ 02. I use to store and haul spikes in a gondola in N-scale. They were taller than a man, of course. When I changed to C55, I used glue instead.
Yup, that would be me, headed up by 2 GP-9's... oh wait... i can't go all the way around yet :rolleyese: we're getting there though
OK. I admit it. Used to have a few cars with stuff like spikes, loose ties for placing under rail joint gaps, etc....... Boxcab E50
Now I know what to use my 30yo N rolling stock for. Thanks for the suggesiton. I won't put them on the track, just mount them on something to hold the small stuff I neen. /Well, that is when I get out of my arm charir
Definately agree on the empty plastic boxes idea. I have one for rail joiners and one for track spikes, both of which get carted about the landscape during tracklaying. I had tried using 40' composite gondolas to "haul away" the ties removed from joining flextrack; but I found they tend to capsize very easily and throw their contents everywhere. Guess the big oversized hand isn't delicate enough to navigate around wagons while wielding pliars and scalpel and hammer and nail and track and glue and cork and...
Welcome to trainboard Another! Surely you've got a big sheep farm on your layout, being from UnZud (j/k) I used a 40' gondola to hold all my old plastic yuck wheels (about to be a fleet of 40'ers, actually) when I replace em.... They even get pressed into service occasionally, jsut when I want lotsa rolling stock lying around. Doesnt look terribly prototypical, but hey, I'm not a typical person
Talking about old plastic wheel sets...I took an old roadrailer flat, glue two rails to it and walla, MOW wheel carrier.
