Found this one on Fort Stewart, GA while I was down there for a couple of days. They also had some DDOX flats lined up but no tanks or vechiles on them.
didn't happen to get any pics of the one in the back ground did you? When I was there in the early spring I only saw one unit there and got pics of it. Here are the pics that I got. http://stewarttrains_98.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=360997 http://stewarttrains_98.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=360996
There was a total of 3 units there and only hit the one. The other two were I think GP 38 they had whinternazition hatches on them. I started to rain really bad and could not get the pics of the other two.
Gee, how cool. I wish they had been there when I was there. Of course they may have been but they where hid as I followed every rail there the two weeks that there. Well I did not go into any areas that look like well I did not belong. As most military people know, you don't belong in that area , don't be there.
If Army Red and Yellow are your liking check out my pics of an Army GP10 (?) and GG20B at Fort McCoy. http://www.trainboard.com/railimages/showgallery.php/cat/500/ppuser/4578
Hmmm, if I could join the army would they let me be an engineer or conductor? I am thinking that it is contracted out.
You asked the right person and the answer is it depends. The VAST majority of rail operations at Army installations is contracted out. BUT, there are two Rail Battalions in the Army Reserve. One is in Conneticut, the other is up in Milwaukee, WI. In fact the USAR has Locomotive Engineer, and MoW positions. The MOS you are looking for is 88U for Engineer http://www.goarmy.com/JobDetail.do?id=170 http://www.goarmy.com/JobDetail.do?id=169 http://www.goarmy.com/JobDetail.do?id=171 Also there is a Transportation Management Coordinator: http://www.goarmy.com/JobDetail.do?id=175
I was thinking of getting into railroading by joining the Army, but the personnel guy told me that you really had to make a long term committment to the Army. I wanted to get in and get out with the least amount of time without being drafted. I did enlist in the Army but was in a military intelligence field(ASA). At that time one could enlist for 3 years active duty. I was also interested in joining the Coast Guard, but that was a four year enlistment. I eventually did get into railroading. It was my 3rd career! CT
I am NOT an Army Recruiter, but saw this press release today. Might be of interest to some on here... Amtrak becomes partner in Army’s post-military career program Last week, Amtrak joined the United States Army’s Partnership for Youth Success program, which provides career opportunities to soldiers after they complete active duty. Under the program, the Army will screen and select applicants to receive transportation-related training during their military career and guarantee them an interview with Amtrak after they complete their service; Amtrak will conduct interviews and offer jobs to qualified soldiers.
