In addition to around two passenger trains per hour, we usually get one freight train per day going north. A few minutes ago, about 6 pm our time, I finally managed to capture it on film, well, pixels anyway

It hurtles past at 60 miles per hour, and pops out from behind nearby trees, so I have missed it several times due to the lag on my digital camera. This time I heard it coming, rushed into the house, snatched up the camera, switching on as I ran to the fence, pointed and pressed the shutter. Yes! at last I caught it :D

Yeah, and in this part of the world we get two freights an hour and run to the fence for the daily Amtrak train -which is often 70% mail and material cars!

Not sure what it carries, Martyn, but it comes from somewhere in East Anglia and runs to Peterborough, Sleaford, Lincoln, Doncaster, then to somewhere 'up north'! Did know the origin and destination, but can't remember now.

The vans are 2-axle sliding wall ones which taper in at the top.

Is there any way of finding out about a particular freight train? This one passes us at around 5 pm usually, sometimes an hour later if it has missed it's path.

I've got the summer 04 'Freightmaster' guide book http://www.freightmaster.uk.com/ and i'll try and work it out from that for you. That lists all regular freight moves at various timing points, it will have Peterborough Lincoln & Doncaster listed i'm sure so I'll see what I can find out tonight.

Seriously, that's quite a photo for an engine on the move, very nice work. Cheers

Current version of it now shows up as 6X37 - 12.37 service, the path exists Monday-Friday but is marked 'As Required':

    Timings are listed as:

    15.35 Peterborough
    17.20 Lincoln
    19.50 Doncaster (then via Selby)

The Southbound empty working runs down the ECML from Doncaster to Peterborough direct, so misses you out, sorry.

On monday we had a GBRf 66 on a container train head south past us, and returned at 5 pm. Has not showed up since, so hope it was a test run for a regular flow [IMG]

I caught the freight again the next day and set my camera to take multiple exposures so I captured the locomotive and some of the freightcars.

    The locomotive was 66054

These are the usual cars on this train

But several of these bogie stake flats were on the rear
