Atlas has produced unit no's 400 and 401 back in 2002 of these units in a red and black scheme which is similar to others I have seen on other engine types. Now they are going to make the exact same model with the same two no's since those are the only two Rock Island had; but the new paint scheme is an almost identical red and black scheme with "route of the rockets" lettering down the side. My question is does anyone have the dates these similar schemes were used? I looked on the RITS but they don't break it down and any links to other sites show some pictures but no dates. Maybe someone with a Rock Island book that might say something definative? Thanks!
The rocket scheme pre-dates the scheme previously done. "Rocket" was the as-delivered scheme. There were two later versions as well. Maroon with white pin striping and all Maroon no striping.
