Well I just got my first Atlas Locomotive. A U33C for $35 at a train show (unused still in box) So far I am highly pleased with it. But is there anything I should be warned about or is this a good model. I have several Atlas cars and have been pleased witht them too.
I have three of them and they all run great. My only problem has been the railings. They keep popping lose even though I don't handle the locos very often. I guess I need to use a different adhesive.
It sounds like you got a good deal. I own 4 Atlas C30-7's myself. I had problems putting on the grabs and the railings. For the grabs I drilled the holes out, with a pin vise and then used some CA from the inside of the loco shell to hold them in place. As for the handrails/railings, the factory ones are the locos weakest point. I have replaced a couple of them with new ones ordered from Atlas. But now they are no longer available for the C30-7. So now I am doing what a friend of mine did. I bought some thin brass wire and some GE handrail stanchions (I believe they were Details West or Cannon). I plan to shape new handrails and us some CA to hold them in place
I have a pair of HO GE U33C's. One tops out at 130MPH and the slower one tops out at 98MPH. For your additional infor, the U stand for universal, 33 stands for 3,300 horsepower and the C stands for 3 powered axles. If you wish to change over to a kadee, it's a #38 and if it's a snug fit, try it without installing the coupler box LID.
I have one of these, they are avaliable over this side of the pond quite cheap as well, i got mine for £30, I would like to have a few more and bash them into a U30C... but that will have to wait I got LOADS of other projecs to do yet. Over all its a good model, fitting DCC shouldnt be 2 hard either. One of the handrails on mine wont stay in the hole in the cab, but I not glued it yet as its not painted.. its still in primer
