I use prismacolor pencils to draw road lines. White and yellow. I lay down masking tape so one edge is at the center then I run the pencil down the edge of the tape. Only thing was I had to keep sharpening the pencil to keep the line nice.
You can get them at any art supply store. I still have my white and yellow colored pencils from drawing street lines on my old HO scale layout.
Yeah it was the craft store, Pat Catan's here, but any place like Michaels or Hobby Lobby should have them. They are in a big rack and you can buy the pencils in singles for around $2 @. My yellow one here says Sanford Prismacolor Jasmin PC1012. Keep in mind there are several shades of yellow they offer.
How thick is the chart tape? It may not look like much, but I'll bet it will show up in photos, and vertically is what I mean. Just something to keep in mind. Gross Dam Rd is the only road on my layout, and it's dirt, so I don't have to worry about that!
Looking good Jerry! I've tried several different road line techniques, and agree w/ Secret Weapon - the Woodland Scenics dry transfer lines are the way to go. Nice clean crisp thin lines.
Jerry what are you using for roads? If your using something like drywall mud or similar. I would highly recommend that you just lay low tack tape and paint your stripes. Also if you go back and weather you roads more the stripes will weather better also. I have tried dry transfer stripes on my club layout before and they just don't stick that well in my opinion. Just my 2 cents.
Jerry, I am using road bed for my highway. I mixed plaster in big bowl and using paint brush to apply plaster on road's surface let it dry then sand to make it smooth. I like to use plaster it fast, chip and give a final nature look.
