Still doing alot of 'cleaning' on the layout. Then going to move a bunch of the containers of dirt, foliage, grass, etc off the areas I am going to start on. Did go to Hobby Lobby and got some new paint for the 'concrete' bridge supports. Hobby Lobby has really cut down on the modeling materials for railroading. :(
I will say one thing...and it is disappointing. I have cleaned up several empty soda cans, water bottles and candy wrappers off my layout. I put two 55 gallon plastic garbage cans in there for the club members to use, and I guess they thought a detailed layout or a double mainline was a better place to set the garbage. It will not happen again I can tell you that. Shows how much I was on 'my' side of the garage since working on the clubs layout. Maybe if club members were on the other side of the garage more would have got done on the club layout faster. I dont know...just mad rambling. LOL :)
Next work sessions my layout access will be roped off.

Wow, it's amazing how some people treat other people's property...sorry to hear that, but hopefully there's no damage.

I kind of got excited when I saw your post, thought maybe you had started working on the Muir Trestle and had some pictures to share :) :)

I'm going to have to get with Bob again about doing the bents for that bridge. He had some projects going on last time I talked to him. If its not too much trouble, I may just use the Micro Engineering parts for now just to 'bridge' the gap and keep the line going. :)

Here's a question for modelers with garage layouts or older layouts. Is there anything 'safe' you can spray on folage/trees to clean them off? (Dust)
I mean, can you mist on water? Alcohol?

Jerry....I use an air gun off my compressor...set at a really low PSI. It knocks the dirt off ok. Then I vacume with the shop vac wherever there aint to much chance off sucking something off the layout I dont wanna lose. If I remember correctly...you handmade most/all your trees from scrub weeds etc. I aint too sure I would want a liquid anywhere near em. But thats just me

JD, Get a spray bottle that has a fine spray and use water, it will clean the dust off the trees with a few squirts. The only thing you have to watch is the water/ dust marks on roads.

I have to ask, will water actually dissolve/remove dust or will it just dampen it enough to become transparent, ultimately leaving it in place for next time?

Seems to me like the compressed air/vacuum approach might be the more thorough option.

    Layout cleaning

Jerry ... I also use the low pressure from my compressor. But I am fearful that I might pull at the wrong thing with the large nozzle and strong pull of my Shop-Vac. I use my Dirt Devil Detailer to pick up any visible debris that the Harbor Freight air blow gun didn't blow off of the layout.

Sure miss the pictures. It'll be good to seem more, again.

I typically use a can of compressed air. Water can damage roads, finishes, water, etc. with spots.

Thanks guys! I will be cleaning some trees in Franklin Canyon and will let you know how it goes. (Going with the air/vacum method.) :)

    Jerry,

I use a Eureka Readyforce vacuum to get the webs and dirt out. It has a neat rotational power setting that lets me start the vacuum low and turn it up if needed.

Sorry to hear about the disrespect to your layout from the club members. Real shame.

Now get out there and get some work done!

If it wasnt 20 degrees out there right now I would get more done faster! LOL :) It always seems colder when your doing boring stuff like 'cleaning!'
Time to invest in some heaters. :)

Boring cleaning has been completed and now time to get back in before the 'blizzard' hits. Suppost to get 4-11 inches of snow here today and tonight. Thats going to shut this area down! Went to Walmart last night and all the bread, milk, lunch meat, and almost all the soup was gone! :)
