For anyone who knows, what did you use for the yellow on the "Bluebonnets?" I will be starting on a sweet project as soon as I get the stuff that I ordered.
Almost any brand of RR paint has their version of ATSF yellow. At least Floquil and Accu-Paint have one.
I looked in the Walthers catolog and in the ScaleCoat section there was ATSF Red and ATSF Blue, but no yellow. What amount is in the AccuPaint, as the ScaleCoat has some 60oz. cans. Isn't Fouquil mainly Airbrush stuff?
Would "Reefer Yellow" be a good match? I saw on the Atlas forums that a guy got a pretty good match with the Reefer Yellow. What do you think?
Steve, Reefer Yellow is a slightly different shade than ATSF Yellow. Floquil has ATSF Yellow in the Enamel line #F110178. If you want an acrylic Modelflex has a ATSF Yellow. All of these paints are airbrush paints. Hope this helps.
Accu+Paint also makes a Santa Fe Yellow, #64. A+P is great paint; it comes in 1oz bottles, but it covers extremely well, and goes on VERY thin. It and Scalecoat are the only paints I use today if I can help it.
eh, I don't own an airbrush and I have too much to paint to use a plain brush. If there is a spray out there that is as close to Warbonnet yellow as possible, then I could use it. Couldn't I just dullcoat it if it's too bright, and multi-coat if it's too dark? I've never painted a locomotive shell before, I don't even know how to take Kato shells off because I'm just too gentle.
I have used assorted spray paints for years but I don't think I would use any on a Kato. It seems silly to spend that much on a highly detailed shell and then obscure it with spray paint. An air brush and compressor are rising on my "must have" list.
I have a friend who does a lot of incredible "Shake the Can" painting of locomotives. I don't know how he does it but he gets a light smooth coat every time. He usually weathers things up so you don't notice if the color is off.
Steve , I have found that Badger Accuflex 16-69 B&O Yellow is a good match for most factory ATSF yellow. Mike
