Hemi thats an awesome link thanks. Interesting. Bernard Kempinski was, as I recall, firmly into CSX and paper mills. Big switch for him. My only real criticism is that many of our mountain streams look very green as opposed to blue all the time. Nice layout though.
I thought about that too when I was doing my modules, and came to the conclusion that they can be both colors, depending on what was being reflected Stand where the viewer would be, and then reflect at the same viewing angle off the water and determine the color of the objects. If it's trees, you get green, whereas sky reflects blue. If there is no reflection, it's dark out!
That shot is of Mitchell, CO, just a couple miles from the summit. The curve pictured is very photogenic, and highly covered. The curve also S-curves again behind the photographer. I have video footage of this area, it's on a 3% grade. What show!!!!!
My second favorite railfanning location and prototype line to model...it's a shame we can only do one! Unfortunately I can't open the link, and the photo posted is the RED X...
That is a nice layout, and he progressed fast. Makes my progress seem real slow now. I need to get back downstairs and keep laying track. Great scenery shots. Does Bernie K hang out on Trainboard or Atlas?
Thx for the link. It's great to see what Bernie Kempinski is up to. Talent. I believe that Bernie K. is seen from time to time on the Yahoo N_Scale group. I don't remember him posting here on Trainboard or on Atlas.
Jeff, I think he's going as far as Grand Junction, and Glenwood Springs is included. I can't imagine any reason the canyon of the same name wouldn't be included in some fashion. I only hope the Secret Places Sub comes out half as nice....
That layout is truly exceptional! The secenry and backdrops are fantastic and I really like the way he has blended the S curves with the scenery.
Hey Hemi, your layout is just as good! You captured the same flavor! I first thought the opening scene was yours! Is Tennessee dormant now?
My present layout is just a mainline... The Athol, ID area I modeled also looks a bit like Mitchell.... TP has been deactivated since 1997.
I thought the exact same thing. I thought the first picture on the intro page was Hemi's layout. So both of you are doing great work.
That is a nice looking layout! That is a good idea with the aluminum for the backdrop! He looks like a great artist also, the backdrop looks amazing! Thanks for the link.
Very nice work, but let me suggest it is likely NOT that of Bernie Kempinski, of whom I have great respect as a modeler. If you check your recent NSR, you will see not one but two mentions (pgs 6 and 60) that photography by Bernie will feature Walt Schuchmann' D&RGW layout in the Nov-Dec issue. This is no doubt a little appetizer for the meal we are about to enjoy in 8 weeks! The modeling and photography look great, it should be a great issue.
