Need to get more traction out of my MT GP9 and was wondering if the AZL GP7 chassis could be modded to fit without cutting the frame?

I am a big fan of the AZL engines I have, but don't think I would go through the trouble of trying to convert an MTL engine to ride on the AZL chassis. Especially if your happy with the MTL shell. I think the wider MTL shell would look even wider on a narrow chassis.

Why not just use some Bullfrog snot on the MTL wheels?

Is there any space to add weight?

Hi warships, I've been playing with a GP30 chassis and it looks better under the loco as far as the trucks are concerned. They match perfectly and the chassis almost fits perfect will only need to file the ends down to a sharper angle. the problem is in the mt shell the black pieces to block the light are too tall and will need to be filed down. I was hoping the GP7 chassis might be a little shorter. I'm trying to pull the MT state series set with only 2 locos and think I will need a TT to do it. Ive tried the BF snot and will admit I still need practice applying it as I always seem to get a high spot might need to thin it out some.

Hi Phil, no not a lot of room for weight I've tried some lead tape and it helped some but not enough maybe a combination of BF snot and what little tape I can fit. Just seems like a cleaner install if I can get an AZL chassis under it.

I'm not sure whether an AZL Geep chassis has better tractive effort than a MTL one. Yes, AZL chassis have traction tyres but in my opinion they're lighter. And on another hand as AZL Geeps have prototypical proportion on the opposite of MTL's, had I a spare AZL GP7 chassis, I would rather try to find a matching AZL's shell instead of trying to adapt a MTL shell, leaving alone its matching chassis. Makes sense?;)

The traction tires are a great idea, but not when you only fave four axles and 50% of them don't pick up electricity. I like the narrow features of my GP9 from AZL, but it does not always run smoothly and I think, (may be mistaken) that it is the lack of pick up wheels for conducting current and the light weight of the loco.

Does anyone else have this issue with their AZL GP9s? My track is clean and so are my wheels, so I don't know what the answer is. I did not mean to veer off subject but since we were mentioning tractive effort........
