My 11 yr old son would like to continue running the outdoor railroad inside our house during the winter, question is if the bachman track that came with the train set is good enough to warrant building a small G layout in the basement. He has a Lil'l Critter so big radius is not the question- are their switches any good? I use Aristocraft outside for my battery power RS-3 and FA, so should I use the stuff we got now or "pitch it" and buy something else - no we are certainly not rich so money definitely comes into play - thanks, Fred

hello fred! It's a very positive attitude of you to bring your son into G scale [IMG] [IMG].

I think if your intention is to have a small layout for your son then stick to the Bachmann track. Also if you would run on battery power.

You can also watch Ebay for better track such as Aristo's.

If you would like to expand your indoor layout in the future then I would, from the start on, opt for a better track than Bachmann's.

I know that taking decisions in the train hobby is not always an easy one [IMG].

Anyway enjoy your trains and especially the critter. I have also one and it is a fine cute runner [IMG]

Paul, Yea I'm lucky my son has the same interest I do. We railfan a lot together and work on the garden rr together. I have a good size HO layout and my son has a 5x8 lay-out underneath one of my penisulars-this is where he wants to lay some g scale track as his HO layout is too small to handle all of his Amtrak equipment. Yes, I know I'm lucky!
