Hey guys. I just inherited a Bachmann Big Hauler and it runs like crap. Well I think that’s more the rails than the train because well the Bachmann track is junk and the LGB track I have it dirty. So I want to save myself hours and hours of track cleaning just to run my new big train for a few hours, then rinse and repeat. I’m pretty sure you all are on the same page with that one. That being said…

I’m better than average on my electrical skills, and the doing of the battery conversion isn’t going to be difficult for me, but being new to the G scale world I’m not familiar with the techniques and products that are commonplace with this scale. I want speed control, I’m looking for lighting at least on the loco, chuffing sound is optional, but horns are always nice and I want to be able to disconnect the tender from the loco as I have limited storage space when they are not on rails. I have LiPo batteries from my days of RC car racing and some 7.2V NiMh as well, but I’m thinking these will not be enough as the train’s old transformer was putting out over 14v.

So is there any tutorials on here that show this loco being converted (search doesn’t work for me) and what are some good batteries and controllers to look into?
