There are a bunch of pictures on Railwire (just try to ignore all of the nasty sniping between the warring parties) - http://www.therailwire.net/forum/index.php?topic=30282.45 Cheers, -Mark
Also try to forget that the hood is a silly 0.21mm to wide compared to the prototype = a scale 1.346 inches to wide !! OMG !!!! :crying:
Thought I would ask here as it was quite ridiculous some of the comments from folks who did not even own one or plan on buying one.
Sizemore postred a bunch of pics over there. I dont think it looks to bad. But then again...I am a simple minded SOB...and a lot of things dont bother me...LOL
There are some posts from the thread cited above that are just classic. "Fair use" prevents my lifting them directly, but I'm keeping them in a file.
I think it ha d something to do with the Perseid Meteor Shower...I dunno. Its was entertaining while it lasted...LOL
From what I've seen of the pics on the other forum, they're sure not the Bachmanns from the 70's and 80's that we're so familiar with!
They look fine to me as well, but there are folks out there who simply refuse to admit that the Bachmann of 2013 is no longer the Bachmann of the 70's and 80's. Then again, there are also people out there who seem to hate just about everything on general principle (no matter who made it). I continue to remain mystified as to what enjoyment said folks might actually derive from this hobby of ours Cheers, -Mark
Unfortunately we have a lot of bozos like them across the river from me on Capital Hill. They don't like anything and can't agree either. That type of stuff was why I stayed off the Atlas board and only hang out here. It stays civil here most of the time with positive conversations. Now back to the regular subject. I wonder if any of these made in into BN paint.
I would love to see Bachmann continue their recent trend of offering locos in B&M. Perhaps, like the 44 tonner, Bachmann will release one on the second run... I will probably wait to jump on these until I know what the next round of roadnames will be. Still, I think it looks great (I am not a rivet counter) but I do enjoy seeing people take what is essentially a toy used for hobby purposes and complain that it doesn't have 100% fidelity. Just goes to show that you really can't please everyone.
I haven't been able to find any prototype pictures (I didn't try all that hard) but USA Trains did one in G scale.
Well at least one made it into BN as a patch. Don't know if it ever received the green and black though. So I do have an excuse to buy one at least. http://archive.trainpix.com/BN/ALCO/S4/918.HTM
Really scanning the photo close I can see that the stack is on the loco, however no other photos show such a thing. Based on their short lives on the BN and the photo date it is probably been sold and will have a rider all the way to its new location and owner. Since it will be pulled dead in train, thus no heat, it was a common practice when in cold weather to rig a temporary stove to provide heat to the rider. However the photo date is in July in Illinois and it would seem that heat would not be needed. Other thoughts are that it has been sitting for awhile and not yet picked up or that the stove was for the rider to heat some beans on. Other than that it is a mystery.
The stove pipe stack was likely on a small oil heater used to keep the engine warm while it was shut down in the winter months. Other roads had them as well: CP SOO and many more. Cheers Steve
I received notice that mine shipped today. I am going to see if the mechanism will fit my SW1000 bash and if it does, I will order another one
