I was talking to my grandfather tonight and heard about a wreck on the Puget Sound and Pacific in Shelton WA. From what I gather this was a couple of weeks ago. Appearently the PS&P train (There is only one on the whole railroad) was switching the empty car yard at Bayshore when the engineer stepped off the locomotive. Somehow the train took off without him and despite chasing it on foot for some distance he was unable to catch it. The runaway rolled approximatly 5 miles downhill and into downtown Shelton before it collided with a chip trailer entering the Simpson Timber Mill there. The trailer was wrapped around the front of the lead unit and was dragged for some distance during which time the train hit at least one more chip trailer and knocking a small building off it's foundation. Fortunatly, no one was hurt, including the driver of the chip truck. More info when I get it.
I can't say for certain, but most likley the same three as always. The usual consist is GP30 PS&P 3005, rebuilt GP9 PS&P 1001, and GP38 AZ & CA 3802. These three units are the only ones on this end of the line and always run together. When I was down there this weekedn I also saw a Central Oregon and Pacific GP38 (CORP 3832), but I believe it was leased to the contractor who was doing track maintainence.
cthippo- I'd read somewhere else that it was just a car that got away. Wow! The engines themselves? Could have been a very ugly day.... Did any cars go with them? Heard anything about the way that this happened? How many people on their normal crew? Ouch! I'll bet someone has some explaining to do! BoxcabE50
I'm still trying to find a copy of the article on it. As usual with these sort of things nobody got killed so it didn't make the news anywhere else.
For some reason, this one has me really curious. If you can find out more, I'd be very interested! BoxcabE50
I came across a picture from way back when the other day of one of your E&N units in E&N paint in Abbotsford BC on the BN interchange track. I remember I had just gone through Canadian customs when I caught it and had a hell of a time getting turned around and pointed back into Canada! Are they still around?
Are you referring to the two Green E&N units?? I was curious about ex-E&N 3876 and 3877 in my previous posts. They're now PS&P 3876 and 3877.
Looking at my pics, the one i caught at Abbotsford was E&N 3005, in the company of CP 3001. I would have gotten much better pics if it hadn't been for the fence in the way!
