In reading about the western narrow gauge rr's I see to remember that Baldwin built locos known as C16's however in a magazine article from many years ago I remember that Grant also built C16's and that through the many overhauls performed on the earlier locos they mostly came to be more like the Baldwin units.Any thoughts or facts on this.I am slooowly trying to scratchbuild a C16 out of a kit I have but I have a limited amount of material on these C16's.Thanks Jens

Ah, the good old C-16's. That was the Rio Grande Classification. They started out as Class-60. Yes there were many builders. Rail fans have broken that kind of down to early, intermediate and late. A good place to start looking is the DRGW Steam Roster at DRGW.org. Keith has a lot of links to pictures of them. Have fun :D .

    Hey Jens,

Let me know what C-16 kit you have and I will see what I can find out about it. Could it be an old Kemtron???

All you need is a box and a plastic bag and spare springs :D . Ihave a link to a site I need to find and get to you if you are running the MDC drive. Will save you a lot of headaches.

    Here it is.

Wow a couple of years ago I built that very engine seems the builder in that page encountered all of the same stuff plus a few more.Slim here is what I have planned. My brother and I collect Marklin and Fleischman rr stuff. One of the Fleischman lococ (2-10-0) has a very unusual but very effective drive mechanism I intend to build into this model I am fiddling with now. What they did was install the complete motor gears and driven wheels in the tender. The locomotive is as such just a highly detailed model along for the ride. The tender looks completely normal except for an electrical pickup beneath it for the three rail system in use on Marklin tracks. On a two rail system such as is used here in the states even that third rail pickup is gone so even less to see.The neat thing here is that the locomotive can really have that "see through" look to the frame with no gears etc to mar the view.I am pirating parts both from the MDC kit and from some n scale clunkers I have lying around for the drive parts in the tender. Thanks for the headsup though to that site I have another MDC 2-8-0 on order, If it ever get's here I will definitely be referring to that.Jens
