I was there last week, very briefly. Only had a moment or two to snap a quick pic. Here is what I have to share, Enjoy!
Mike, Thats an awesome pic as it shows almost the full length of the consist which is something you don't often see, thanks for posting.
The train is on the new 3rd main between East Barstow and Barstow. Must have been a train for Oakland, as the 4414 was in Bakersfield headed east last night.
Thanks, Mike! I like shots where you can see the entire train, which are hard to come by. What major line is Barstow on: Tehachapi or Cajon? I have no knowledge of the major California passes...
Barstow is east of both Tehachapi and Cajon, trains go west to both places from there. UP and BSNF meet in Barstow as well as at Mojave and Cajon. The UP line goes northeast from Barstow to Las Vegas and Salt Lake, while the BNSF transcon goes east to Needles and on to Arizona.
Thanks gang for the compliments. I wish I could recall what the consist was, other then the lead BNSF unit, I know there was a CSXT unit in there. It was almost a grab shot. I saw this train coming while I was driving on this overpass. I quickly stopped , put my car in reverse and ran across the road (Yucca Street for those interested) and snapped a couple of shots.
Got to agree thats a sweet pic,of notice is the different types/colour of ballast & track as well. But looky all them 'tainers.......
The consist: BNSF C44-9W NREX SD40-2 ex QNS&L BNSF SD40-2 ex BN CSXT C40-8W(guess based on radiator wing thickness)
There's 3 main tracks, left to right 1,2,3 and the fourth track is the auxillary lead that comes from the old, or east yard and goes to East Barstow. I spend entirely too much time in Barstow........
You know you're a foamer if: You've actually stopped in Barstow for more then a Bathroom break and gas.
Thats so funny, but true YoHo!! I could spend an entire weekend there, during the days of the Santa Fe.
Nice Catch N scale Mike. Good to see an update from Barstow, Ca.. Four tracks on the main. Things are looking up. The outside tracks are actually service tracks or sidings. Main line freights waiting to enter the yard or leave may line-up here in order to reduce the congestion in the main yard. RickH
I wasn't aware that possibility even existed!!! We have friends getting married in Riverside mid-September, and we're planning on spending the night in Barstow. You can just imagine the looks we're getting as we're declining invitations to spend the night! :teeth:
I must admit to spending the night in Barstow, more than once. Worse than that, we once spent a night in Baker.
