This is a more of a model RR question but as it relates to the SP I thought I would ask it. Recently I purchased an Athearn SP bay window caboose(PRE-assembled). I know it has been years since Athearn included the roof mounted markers and radio antenna in these kits. My question is does anyone make the proper marker and antenna assemblies to add to this car? Wow, I know its been a long time since I bought a caboose kit. Last time it still had the antenna and marker light included. My guess would be to look at the detail parts list and see what is listed there. Sad to hear that Athearn no longer includes them. Greg Elems
Yes, Athearn stopped including the SP-style frog-eye markers and wheel antenna ground plane with the bay-window caboose years ago (odd, since the caboose is an SP prototype ). Detail Associates makes a nice etched brass antenna ground plane, part #6501; here's an image of it from the Walthers search: http://www.walthers.com/exec/productinfo/229-6501 I'm not aware of anyone else making the marker lights; there was some talk of Sunrise Enterprises looking into it, but I haven't heard anything else. You could possibly scratchbuild one using brass or plastic tubing for the lights, brass stock for the legs, and MV Lenses for the final touch.
I have searched the WKW catalogue and was not sure about the antenna. Thanks for that info. Hopefully someone will be making the marker soon. I will pay closer attention at train shows for a used one. I am sure there must be some older Athearn CB&Q bay windows someone is trying to unload. Thanks again. AF Niederer
