I completed my benchwork, sorry no pictures yet. Waiting on a bonus at work to purchase digital camera, track and etc. I am working on a website also (not ready yet).

My benchwork is basically a L-shape 78" x 78" x 30" deep that cuts across the corner at 45 degrees createing a depth of 38" into the corner. I am modifying the Altas HO-21 plan for N scale with a yard on the backside.

I need to apply 2" foam base now, Watash had recommended on salvaging from local building contractor but I have had no luck at finding any.

1/2" and 3/4" is available at local Home Depot/Lowes is it acceptable to glue multiple sheet together to reach desire thickness and if so what type of glue is used.

I've used two 3/4 thick extruded styrofoam and bonded them together with Liquid Nails "For Projects" which is sold right next to the regular Liquid Nails. On the package "For Crafts" it even lists ex.Styrofoam as what it is made for so no confusion, just read the label ;) It helps to lay heavy objects on top to weight the pieces down and compress them,I used books and bricks to do this.Good luck on this project!

I also live in Texas and was subjected to the thicknesses that Home Depot carries locally. I wanted 2" of foam so I bought 2 sheets of 3/4" and 1 sheet of 1/2". I sandwiched them together using the Liquid Nails for Projects. I set practically my whole magazine collection on top to keep it all flat and level. One more thing, I used the blue foam (extruded) and NOT the white foam (expanded or beaded). I needed the foam to be somewhat self-supporting and the blue foam will do that. See my website below for more info about the construction of my layout. Pictures are coming soon.

Thanks for visiting. I already have a digital camera but have been putting off taking some pictures of construction and posting to my site. It will happen though. I just have to force myself to take the time. [IMG]

Be very careful of using toxic fumed glues and paints inside a room. I did, and got a little woosey from the smell, but we had the airconditioner going, so thought we had adequate ventilation! We did not. I am synthatized to those fumes for life now. It coated the inside of my lungs with rubber, and it is like trying to breathe through a balloon. Be very carefull, especially of large quantities. Gue layups outside, with wind at your back blowing fumes away from your head. When you see the neighbor's cat keel over, stop and go in the house.
