not sure this is the correct forum category, please feel free to move to one that is apropos...
will be posting in N Scale also for obvious reasons:
    --------------------------------------------------------

I continue to hear about installing Z Scale MTL couplers on N Scale locomotives and rolling stock
because the size looks better (closer in size to prototypical?).

I have done an array of internet searches, including the MTL site, Walthers site, several known
hobby shop online companies, and the information about such and the seeming availability of
the same is hard to come by.

I ordered some of what was listed on Walthers site, but without any pictures I have no idea
what they will look like and in which particular installations they will work.

Where do people get these Z Scale couplers....what is their part #....are there ones other than
    the MTL offerings?

Hoping to find what really seems to be hidden.

    Kindest regards
    Gary

    Gary ;

The coupler is known as a 905 assembled and comes in a pack of 2 pair the 8 digit part number is 002 02 021

the coupler also comes un-assembled as a 903 8 digit number 002 02 020, but I do not recommend purchasing them this way.

the mounting screw has the same thread as the N scale version the 1015 8 digit number 001 30 013

here is a link to a source http://www.zscalemonster.com/mt/coupler/coupler.htm

The 905 is smaller in all dimensions compared to the 1015 using the same mounting hole as a 1015 the 905 coupler will not extend to the edger of the of the car floor. You will have to create your own trip pin height gauge, as the mounting height will different from Z scale, you might be able to convert a coupler height gauge (1055) for you new couplers by removing the 1015 and replacing with a 905.

Due to the smaller face height you weill get more unwanted uncoupling on poor track and over the joiner tracks on Ntrak modules.
